Mark Richardson will once again wear the #17 shirt for the Cardiff Devils having signed a multi-year contract in 2010.

Initially signed as a forward in 2005, Mark moved on after two seasons to Nottingham and Basingstoke before returning to Nottingham and finishing the season on defence. Initially seen as a gamble by Gerad Adams to sign Richardson in that position, Mark has blossomed into one of the best british defencemen in the league.

A GB International, it easy to forget that Richardson isn't an experience import when he steals the puck off the opposition before charging up the ice on a counter-attack.

Knowing we had Richie contracted for this year was another ray of sunshine in an often miserable summer. Having an import quality British D man is absolutely huge for us especially with the reduction of imports this year but when it is combined with someone so coachable and low maintenance it is an even bigger plus.

Expect Richie's contribution to grow even more this year with additional responsibility on our PP units and as a transitional defenseman.
