20 year old British defenceman Josh Batch will make his debut in the EIHL this season with the Cardiff Devils having spent the past couple of years in North America.

Born in Essex, Josh came through the Chelmsford junior hockey programme before playing for their senior team and being selected for the GB Under 19s team at the age of just 15.

Spotted during a summer hockey school, Josh moved to America after completing his GCSEs and after being successfully scouted played the next four years in Colorado, California and Boston before returning to the UK this summer.

Sam alerted us to Josh's availability and after speaking with him about his ambitions, having him down to practice with us and speaking to some coaches about him we moved quickly to secure him as a longer term prospect. With his size, Josh has a good head start but we weren't sure how ready he would be to play regularly at this level.

We are really pleased with the start that he has made and it is now vital that he doesn't take his foot off the gas and continues to better himself in practice and games to continue his development.

There is a long season ahead of him and it's important not to get too carried away but with what he has shown so far, I'll be disappointed if he isn't knocking on the door of the senior GB squad in April.
