Canadian defenceman Jamie Vanderveekend joins the Cardiff Devils midway through the 2011-12 season following the longterm injury to Mark Smith.
Jamie was originally a Devils target a couple of seasons ago but opted to stay in North America at the time. After playing in the CHL for several seasons with the Rapid City Rush and Arizona Sundogs Jamie moved to Italy in the summer to sign for Fassa. The move didn't quite work out though and after speaking to his friend Jon Pelle, the Cardiff Devils were recommended to him.
A big defenceman with an eye for goal, the Devils will be hoping that Vanderveeken helps with their transition from defence to attack and will be hoping to exploit his slapshot on the powerplay.
